New Scroll

Here is my latest scroll. It is a silver Guard made for Robert of Canterbury.

Here is the one of the pages that the scroll is based on.

The detail of the M initial.

There are a few more pictures in my gallery.

In response to Scribe with Gold:
I worked on it for 3 days.

Day one was spent picking out designs, searching online for a second initial to go with the M, layout, size of initials etc....getting things just the way I wanted them. :)

Day 2 I started with the Calligraphy. I prefer to do Calligraphy during the day so I can have my overhead lights off to use my light box, but still have daylight coming in through the windows. This was the first time that I made it all the way through the text without messing up somewhere. That cut down on the time quite a bit. I normally have to do atleast 2 copies before getting it right.

Day 3: The pen work and dragon took me a day. I used 2 sets of nibs with holders and paint brushes at the same time. To clarify, one set of nib/holder and brush for red and one set for blue. This cut down on the time between cleaning the red and blue when switching back and fourth. The dragon was penciled in lightly, for positioning, but was painted last.

Wow, Emma - that is some penwork! I love it. It is gorgeous, fluid and pretty! Very well done, and Robert should be proud of such a nice scroll (as well as for the award itself obviously, he's well worth it).
